Texas Bar Foundation Grant Award Announcement

by Jennifer Comeaux, Director of Mission Strategy & Development

Selah Life Choices has received a grant from the Texas Bar Foundation to establish its new Legal Pathways Program, an initiative designed to help women exiting sex trafficking & exploitation overcome legal barriers and access justice as part of their healing journey.

The Legal Pathways Program will expand Selah’s existing advocacy services to include specialized legal support and navigation of resources. Through this new program, survivors will receive assistance with identification recovery, expungement, child custody concerns, court accompaniment, and legal referrals, helping them rebuild stability and independence with dignity.

“This grant allows Selah to address one of the most complex parts of restoration, the legal system,” said Jennifer Bailey, CEO of Selah Life Choices. “Through Legal Pathways, women will have compassionate guidance and a clear process to move from crisis to confidence, knowing they are not alone.”

Founded in 2023, Selah Life Choices operates East Texas’s first short-term stabilization home for adult women who have experienced sexual exploitation. The 90-day residential program provides safe housing, trauma-informed care, medical and legal advocacy, and spiritual and emotional support to help residents transition into long-term recovery.

“When women arrive at Selah, they often carry years of legal challenges that feel impossible to face,” added Jennifer Comeaux, Director of Mission Strategy & Development. “With the Texas Bar Foundation’s support, we can now walk with them through those barriers and open new pathways toward freedom.”

Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $30 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably funded bar foundation.
